How Much Hair Loss Is Normal?

This is a fair question: “how much hair loss is normal?”  According to a few studies I’ve found, 100 – 150 strands of hair loss is considered “normal.”  Each source then goes on to detail in some length what normal means and concedes that you can’t really answer that question definitively for everyone.  Each person’s hair growth and loss patterns are unique to them with some broad classifications that can be made to group people into treatable segments.

To further complicate that simple question, it seems that everything you eat and every lifestyle choice you make can play a roll in the health of your hair as well.  Do you smoke?  Could be a factor.  Ever had “xyz” disease or ailment?  Could be a factor.

While it would be nice to be able to state the bottom line, when it comes to “normal” hair loss, we’re all different and your mileage may vary.  If you really want to know what you’re up against, you can consult a medical professional who specializes in hair and scalp health.  Short of that, according to the experts, you’re kinda guessing.
